What happened up North…

A few weeks ago CW ventured to Manchester for our most Northerly event kindly hosted by the BBC at MediaCityUK; a bustling waterfront destination with digital creativity at its heart.

The event ‘BIG Radio’ was planned with the help of our Radio Technology SIG(special interest group) Champions; John Haine (IoT Security Foundation & University of Bristol) & Brian Collins (BSC Associates). It is the role of a SIG champ to identify key industry topics which, after a couple of planning meetings, means an enticing agenda and selection of speakers can be promoted.

Despite tram closures on the day of the event and epic rain fall (see photo below) we welcomed 47 delegates to The Alan Turing Lecture Theatre (or Imaginarium as it’s also referred to) at the BBC R&D Salford Quays HQ. Our sponsor, Rohde & Schwarz had exhibition at the back of the room and delegates were able to network during lunch and the refreshments break.

Delegates received 4 presentations and speakers reconvened at the end for a panel session to encourage questions from the floor. PDF versions of the presentations can be viewed below.

We were also very fortunate to hear from Adrian Woolard (BBC R&D), Head of North Lab who shared some interesting insight into what their digital teams are working on.
